Bushfoods, local redclaw, organic veges and Rainforest Liqueurs will be
on the table for tasting as a culmination of an Eco-tour run by Barung
Landcare as a part of their Maleny Wood Expo experiences. The Mary
Valley Flavours Eco Tour will stop first at the Redclaw Crayfish ponds
where Kay and Joe Herron will talk about their adventure as they
experiment with alternate farmland use.
Then on to visit Kookaburra Organics vegetable farm, an organically certified farm producing fresh vegetables and a growing mail order range of unique organic bottled delicacies. Creek tree-planting and solar power are special accomplishments of Gary and Paula. John and Mary King of Rainforest Liqueurs in Conondale have pioneered production of fine liqueurs made from Australian wildfoods.
Appreciation of Land for Wildlife and value of the land allows them to step out of the box, and look at producing a harvest to suit Australian conditions The Maleny Wood Expo's popular EcoTours will introduce you to less visible aspects of Hinterland culture in and around the Blackall Range and will depart daily from the Expo, this weekend at the Maleny Showgrounds.
These guided bus tours explore innovative enterprises and horticultural pursuits using ecologically sustainable land practices, from the Trees for Conservation in the Mary Valley tour to EcoGardening and Mary Valley Flavours.
The EcoGardening Tour visits two small acreage properties evolving from former weedinfested grazing land into exemplary native gardens with Land for Wildlife accreditation. Farm Forestry Tours take participants to young and developing plantations. The Farm Forestry tours include a visit to a property in Maleny to showcase Multi-Purpose Farm Forestry on the plateau. Another tour visits a degraded property in the Conondale district, showcasing farm forestry as a Land Restoration Tool. Another farm forestry tour will visit a property just north of Conondale, showcasing trees for timber and conservation in the Mary Valley.
Make the most of the Expo and experience the Hinterland's magic and book into one of the unique tours today. Tour prices include a weekend pass to the Expo.
For bookings contact the Wood Expo office on 5429 6566 until Friday, or book directly at the Expo over the weekend. For further information about the Expo, visit the website www.malenywoodexpo.com
