STATE Member for Glasshouse Carolyn Male MP congratulated Beerwah State High School on being named as a regional winner in the annual Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools.
Carolyn Male said the school's Get the Edge program won the RACQ Showcase Award for Excellence in the Senior Phase of Learning. "Get the Edge is equipping Beerwah State High School graduates with skills that give them a competitive edge in their future careers," she said.
"The program includes comprehensive career planning, strong industry partnerships, an integrated approach to vocational education and training and flexible and alternative time-tabling." "Senior students plan their schooling programs to suit their needs, giving them ownership of their future which makes their schooling relevant and exciting."
Carolyn Male said the results speak for themselves 93 per cent of Beerwah High graduates moved successfully from school to work, training or tertiary studies last year. As a regional winner the school receives a $1,000 grant to further develop the program.
Getting the Edge will now progress to state judging where a panel of education and industry experts will select 24 state finalists in eight categories. From this, eight State Award winners will be announced on 12 October at a gala dinner in Brisbane.
Ms Male said The State Government's Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools recognise and reward leading state school programs and practices that significantly improve student outcomes.
