EDEN in Glasshouse Country is an aged care facility where people come to live their lives rather than spend their last few years.
That is according to Eden Retirement Living chairman Peter MacKenzie, who said the facility had been designed with that positive philosophy in mind.
?I guess the thing that we have endeavoured to do is design the home around the residents? lifestyles, with obvious under-pinning by the quality of clinical care we offer.
?We offer a range of experiences and we want people and families to feel very much a part of their community. And we?ve focused on what residents can do, rather than what they can?t do.
?This is like a hotel here,?? said Divisional Councillor Anna Grosskreutz. ?It?s like walking into a five star hotel.? Cr Grosskreutz said she was thrilled that Beerwah people would now be able to live and stay in their own community for a long and happy life and not be forced to move out once their circumstances changed.
Currently under construction at 96 Peachester Road, Beerwah the $12 million 80-bed development is set on 14 acres of land. It involves 73 independent living units. It provides high level (nursing home) and low level (hostel) care.
Mr MacKenzie said the official opening would take place June 9 and the first residents will arrive June 13. One of the four communities will be specifically kept for those needing a little more security and dementia-specific services. Cr Grosskreutz was impressed by an indoor mall or a ?streetscape? with a caf?, cinema, library, physician?s room/gym, laundry, salon and a postal centre.
?Each of the communities has its own identity,?? said Mr MacKenzie. ?Each has permanently assigned staff so you have that community feel and so the staff has a sense of belonging.? Mr MacKenzie said Eden in Glasshouse Country would have combined high and low care communities. ?Residents will be able to remain in their community as their needs change over time,?? he said.
?At Eden in Glasshouse Country you will not be sent to the nursing home, the nursing home will come to your room.?
